4 Questions You Should Ask A Business Coach Before Hiring Them!

If you're reading this, you're probably thinking about hiring a business coach to help your business grow. It's a great idea… and I don't just say that because I am a business coach!

Think about high performing sports people and athletes… they all have coaches right? The thing is, we are often too close to the issue to be able to successfully strategise our way to our goals.

Working with a coach or mentor can really help you find your way to the success you want faster and easier than going it alone.

Coaches have specialised knowledge about how to get to your goals… because they've done it before. And if they're like me, they have done it so many times for so many clients that their knowledge is systemised into a repeatable process that can work for a variety of clients.

But business coaches can be quite different in both skill and experience, and choosing the wrong one can cost you precious time and money.

Before hiring a business coach, it's important to do your due diligence in making sure you're making a good choice for your business.

Here's a few questions you should be asking before deciding whether the person you're considering is the right fit for you.

How many hours have you spent coaching?

There's a lot of coaches out there that are quite new to coaching. While I understand that everybody needs to start somewhere, that actually means that these coaches are essentially practicing with your livelihood.

It's really important to gauge how much time they've spent in the trenches coaching other people. I personally have been coaching for 9 years, and have over 10,000 hours of coaching under my belt. I'm not saying this to brag; this simply means that I have solved a wider variety of problems for a wider variety of people.

When choosing a coach, make sure they know a variety of ways to create success and solve different problems.

Who do you help, and how do you help them

If you've got a specific medical problem, you go to a specialist, right? Because specialists have experience that's specific to your problem. Meaning they can solve it faster and more effectively than a generalist GP.

Business coaches are kind of the same. Beware the business coach who says they can help everybody. Business can be quite a different beast depending on your industry, product, and many other details.

At The Game Changers, we are clear that we cannot help everyone. There are specific criteria that we're looking for in our clients, because we know that clients with those criteria get the best results from our program.

And naturally we want to work with people we KNOW we can help hit some massive home runs. It's great for them, and great for us!

What's your success rate in helping your clients achieve outcomes?

Scary fact: most of the larger business coaching organisations have just a 5% success rate in helping their clients achieve their goals. We actually researched this a few years ago… naturally we were shocked!

It's one thing to talk the talk, but another to actually back up big words with action

That was a huge motivator for us to aim at a 95% success rate for our clients. Why 95% and not 100%? Well, sometimes things in life - or business - don't go absolutely to plan. Frankly, if a business coach is telling you they have a 100% success rate, I'd see that as a red flag.

We have a program that works, and we have proven it again and again with a multitude of client success stories. But there's always going to be one or two clients that are unwilling or unable to do what it takes to follow the program and get the results they want.
