Grow the business not the runway

Jacob was stuck in the classic trap of continually seeking more capital to keep the business alive rather than seeking to improve the fundamental components of the business itself. This quickly leads to a business with huge debts that spiral in a downward direction.

The business becomes a slot machine which the owner continually invests in with the hope that if they pour in enough money, they will eventually gain a return. The owner becomes addicted and quickly begins to use the money they lost as an incentive to feed the slot machine more money in order to recoup their losses. But unfortunately we all know that the house always wins.

"I knew that the runway couldn't go on forever and at some point I would have to take off"

You get out your toolbox and turn the slot machine into an ATM.

As a leader of a business, it is vital that priority is placed on aspects fundamental to the business's success. With this mentality, investment of time will not be gambled away, instead it will be reflected in results and the business will begin to fly.

Jacob achieved this reprioritisation through a significant alteration of his psychology, he soon found that the way he would show up to the business in the morning changed completely.
