Don’t work through the holidays!

What have you achieved this year? Can you remember where you were, this time last year?

It's holiday time with Christmas and New Year's festivities knocking on our door!

Decorations 'deck the halls' and the hustle and bustle of the shops, supermarkets and the roads is a sure indication that we ought to be feeling the 'Christmas Spirit'.. But what if you're not feeling it? In fact, what if you haven't yet realised that Christmas is "next week" and you're running around from one thing to the next, driven by your calendar, business operations, appointments and prospecting, just simply under the pump.

Have you even considered taking a break, or does that make you want to bite your nails? You've also potentially been caught up in the whirlwind and assumed that everyone else is too.. that everyone else must be burning both wicks through the holiday period and 'the show must go on!' Choosing to believe that if you don't work through the holidays (and work solidly!) you'll start the New Year chasing your tail and already behind? Panic!

What have you achieved this year? Can you remember where you were, this time last year? No doubt a lot of water has passed under the bridge, "the whirlwind" has sucked you in and it's difficult to recollect and recall, the year has flown.

That is precisely the point!

When we work hard, achieve a lot, lead a team, our business or someone else's, it is very easy to be consumed by the momentum and the feeling of forging your path forwards to achieve greatness! Being busy with multiple projects often provides feedback to us that we're on course and achieving success. However! It isn't necessary true, since when did you last check the map?

Without a moment's pause to check and verify we're on course, how would we know? A pause, a breath and reflection can be enough to see the very greatness we have achieved or created for ourselves and those around us!

But without lingering a moment, it is difficult to reflect on the journey and check in to see if we are tracking against the path we set out to follow.

On any journey, you need to pause and check that map to check and potentially recalibrate. It's also important to pause to refuel, replenish reserves, maybe sleep or do the routine "checks" that will provide assurance for the remainder of the journey and beyond. This new energy, perspective and alignment with the onwards journey formulates the successful arrival at the goal or destination. It even propels you forward over the next leg of the journey!

Our lives, our business, our relationships and our health and wellbeing is no different.

Taking stock is fundamental for success and growth. Yet, no one else is going to stop for you, only you can stop for you. We have a finite amount of energy and time on this earth in this lifetime and it's important to put that time towards purposeful actions that will lead to the goal or destination you have set out to achieve. The "pause" and refueling, reflection time over the holiday period is an integral part to formulating the overarching success and growth for you and your business for the onwards journey.

Return to 2017 re-energised, for you, your team and business and those around you! Happy Holidays!
